Be a Sleuth and Research your Date!

Why is it that people find it creepy when you research your date? Meeting a man for the first time does indeed come with some inherent risks, and yes, you should be smart about knowing as much about your potential date. It’s not necessarily that he might be Jack the Ripper, but he could be married. In 10 minutes you can find out what you need to know, so you are safer and you don’t waste your time with unsavory characters.

Just starting simply by entering their name pulls up all sorts to where they live to their correct age. There are plenty of free databases that give you basic information. You do have to take some of them with a grain of salt. On one of them, I am classified as a Hispanic American…funny because I was born in England with 100% British heritage. Oh well, just a warning not to believe everything you read!

For arrest warrants, most local county sheriff offices have public records that you just need first, last name, race, and gender. Most county-level searches are free.

If you want to find out what someone’s marital status is, then that information is usually free too. Just Google Clerk of Court Records in your county. For instance, I live in Hillsborough County, Tampa, FL. It’s easier to search for a man, as obviously, he doesn’t have a maiden name.

Personally, I don’t think it’s worth paying for information, although I do have a friend with a handy app that although paid for serves her really well as she dates a lot.

Linkedin is a great site with a plethora of information. At least you can check that where he says he works and what he does matches his story. Remember as I said, make sure to give him some benefit of the doubt because not all of them are 100% accurate. Mine says I have lived in Ohio. I have never set foot in Ohio!

Social media, especially Facebook if he has an open account is a great place to some investigation and research. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!
